Made by Heckler and Koch in Germany, it was loosely based upon the G3 design and intended to be a compact, high rate of fire rifle that's purpose was primarily close quarters combat. A favorite of SWAT, Law Enforcement, Seal Teams, Military and the Intelligence community from countries all over the world, it has become a classic in a very short time.
Our rifle for review is a German re-weld, full auto MP5 and was generously provided for review and overseen by Hardened Arms LLC, an FFL and firearms manufacturer (07, SOT). Thanks, Guys! Can you say fun to shoot!? This little 9mm is a dream, with its non-reciprocating side charging handle, quick disconnect sling and compact size and balance. It spits 9 x19mm Parabellum at the rate of 800 rounds per minute and is surprisingly accurate with short bursts. Effective range is 200 yards, though its forte is and always has been close up work. I found the pistol grip and compactness just right for my smaller frame and the recoil completely manageable. My favorite thing about the MP5 is the modular construction, I wonder if its pin together pieces might have inspired the modern Stoner Arms AR15 system and how its upper and lower pin together. The take down of an MP5 is just a matter of various detent pins which pull out in order to change out the buttstock, remove the upper, the trigger assembly and the hand guard. This modular construction is one of the reasons this rifle's cool factor weighs in at way off the charts. The action is gas blowback with a roller delayed bolt system that is fired in the closed bolt position. It has an ambidextrous lever safety that is easy to access and has a firm click to it on each of its three settings. Safe, E for semi-auto and F for Full auto. The trigger is reasonable with no bite and comes in a module that allows for easy transfer from one HK firearm to another. For a 60s era firearm, this small but mighty rifle is no slouch. Some things are timeless and the MP5 hasn't lost a bit of its performance or fan base over the last 50 years. - Anna Valerie Dawn

She also is very skilled with a bow and both competes and hunts with it. Move over Cupid, Valerie packs her own arrows! A surgical nurse, who enjoys her work very much, she works in the city at the hospital but still insists on living in the country. If you are lucky enough to have Val as your nurse you are truly blessed. You won't find a more caring nurse than Val! She is no stranger to chores. On her days off you are likely to find her chainsawing logs or splitting firewood, driving a tractor, sewing or even baking a pie made from fresh berries. Val loves to travel, though her busy schedules keeps her close to home most of the time; still, when the snow gets really deep in Indiana she heads to the North Western part of the US where the rainforest is green year round and the climate is a bit more friendly for some much earned rest and vacation time. Valerie is currently working on her NRA teaching certificates and is looking forward to "paying it forward" as a women's firearms instructor. She understands that a woman who shoots is a confident woman and that confidence is beautiful. There is a little bit of Guns and Lace girl in every woman! |
